How to Select a Frame |
| |
| Q: What should I consider when selecting a frame?
The choices seem endless! |
| A: What appeals to you? Although largely a matter of personal
taste, here are some suggestions: |
| OBSERVE YOUR ART |
| * Style - Is it contemporary or abstract?
Try a sleek metallic frame. |
| * Is it an old master or museum piece? Try an ornate gold-leaf frame. |
| * Subject - Picture a beach scene in a rustic driftwood frame,
or a wildlife print in a natural wood frame with an interesting grain pattern. |
| * Shape - A sketch of a nude may lend itself to a soft, rounded
frame, echoing the body's curves. |
| * Color - Choosing a frame to blend in with the background
colors of your artwork may allow the main subject to really stand
out. Brightly colored frames have a playful feel- great for children's
art. |
| * Patterns - Look for a frame that repeats a pattern found in
the art- beading, ridges, stripes, waves, a floral design- on and
on! Most importantly, keep in the mind the frame should enhance the
art without overpowering it! |
| Q: What about frame size? |
| A: First, make sure your choice is strong enough and deep enough
to accommodate all the components of the framing package. Then comes
the personal choice factor. A chunky frame on a small piece can be
very dramatic. A narrow frame on a large piece gives a minimalist
look. Try stacking two frames together for an even more custom look! |
